Statement Following the Death of Professor Jason Arday

We are deeply devastated by the death of Professor Jason Arday. On behalf of the UK Black Parliamentary Caucus, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Young, gifted and black, the memory of Professor Jason Arday will live on in our community as a testament that there is no ceiling high enough that can limit the greatness that is in us.

What happened to Professor Jason should never have been possible. Jason’s passing raises serious questions. Is our current legislation fit for purpose or is it dangerously inadequate in the era of echo-chamber algorithms and click-bait content?

To ensure that the United Kingdom continues to be a safe place for all to flourish, we will urgently push the Government to act decisively and urgently, introducing legislation which protects individuals from such extreme harassment.

We will remember Jason with honour, pride and gratitude for all he did for the world. We will miss you.

Rest in peace, Professor Jason Arday.
